I saw it on Instagram a while back...as a meme.
Then it happened, I started seeing it on my youtube feed as well.
Couldn't believe that people young and grown were actually biting into the pods and filming themselves doing it!
I don't blame Tide for this horrible trend. ( I do hold them responsible for the chemicals they put into their pods but that's for another day. )
I stopped using Tide years ago. I have eczema and like most detergents it irritated my skin to no end. A few years ago I began learning what was actually in some of our laundry soaps and made the decision to "clean" my clothing with products that didn't leave harmful residue in them. Especially because whatever is coating my clothing, rests on my skin and is absorped into my body.
Notice the last point made "Duration of contact" I wear clothes about 24 hours a day, that is a long time for my skin to absorp the chemical soup found in most laundry products!
These are some of the ingredients found in Tide pods:
A quick visit to EWG's "Guide to Healthy Cleaning"
and you can see how Tide pods rate!
You can go there and research over 2,000 cleaning products!
Here is a quick guide to help you assess the
real dirty on laundry products!
Perhaps some good can come from this horrible internet meme. I mean the US Consumer Product Safety Commission actually used #preventpoison in reference to eating laundry pods...I would add in using them as well!
It is up to us as consumers to educate ourselves. Remember, just because something takes up space on a store shelf does not mean it should take up space in your home!
Just in case you're wondering! I use the Norwex Ultra Power Plus Laundry soap. It does NOT contain harsh ingredients like optical brightners, sulfates and bleach. Plus it is super economical! Here in the U.S. I get around 250 H.E. loads from one bag!
Since it is biodegradable it is environmentally friendly too!
